21-08-17 ANZSOPS and NZAPS Joint Scientific Meeting From the 4- 6 August 2017 Dr Richard Hart attended the inaugural meeting of the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons (NZAPS) and the Australia and New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons (ANZSOPS). This was their first joint meeting and was held at the Hilton Hotel in Queenstown. The conference was designed to bring together the best Oculoplastic and Plastic Surgeons to foster collaboration and the sharing of ideas between colleagues in the beautiful setting of Queenstown in the winter. Dr Richard Hart (Ophthalmologist, Oculoplastic Surgeon) and Dr Michelle Locke (Plastic Surgeon) acted as co-conveners for the meeting. On the first day of the three day meeting the theme encompassed the whole span of oculoplastics including eyelid surgery, orbital surgery, the management of tumours and lacrimal surgery. The following two days focussed on areas of more general plastic surgery. Dr Hart convened sessions on the Friday and gave presentations on the medical management of thyroid eye disease and orbital decompression surgery. Other guest speakers included Dr Michael Grant, Distinguished Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Centre, Chief – Plastic, Reconstructive & Maxillofacial Surgery and Dr Shannath Merbs, Professor of Ophthalmology and Oculoplastic Surgeon Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. Although only there for the weekend Dr Hart was also able to take a few hours to enjoy the slopes of the Remarkables ski field! Back
