General Eye Conditions

Blepharitis is inflammation of the edges of the eyelids which can cause redness and burning, itchy eyes.  Many different treatments are available and can be discussed with your ophthalmologist.

Neuro-ophthalmology and Strabismus

The eye and the central nervous system are closely related. Light bouncing off objects is received by the eye, where it is converted into nerve signals and passed through the optic nerve for processing in the brain. The brain also sends signals back to the eye and surrounding structures such as the muscles, which move our eyes when we are looking at something.

Since the eye and brain are so closely connected, diseases that affect the brain and optic nerve may result in disturbances of vision. Other conditions may result in alterations of eye muscle function resulting in crossed or wandering eyes (called a squint), which may cause double vision.

Driver’s licence vision testing

Driver’s licence vision testing by an eyecare professional is required if you have any eye condition which may affect your vision. We are able to test your peripheral vision,  your central vision and complete the required documentation for the Land Transport Safety Authority.
