20-09-24 Optom Seminar August 2024 Thank you to everyone who attended our recent optometrist seminar at our City rooms in August! It was great to see so many familiar faces. Please see abstracts from our ophthalmologists’ presentations below. Dr Sonya Bennett: Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus - An Update on Diagnosis and Management Herpes Zoster Ophthalmics (HZO), commonly known as shingles, is a recurrence of the varicella zoster virus, part of the herpes simplex virus family. It has the potential to cause sight threatening disease of the eye and eyelids. The presentation covered the main features of this condition that can lead to an early diagnosis, and the general management, illustrated by case presentations. We also discussed primary prevention and prophylaxis recommendations. Dr Clairton de Souza: Vitreoretinal Management of Cataract/IOL Surgical Complications Cataract surgery is one of the most common and successful surgeries performed worldwide. However, sight-threatening complications involving the posterior segment can occur. The incidence of such complications is relatively low, but it is essential to recognize them early and treat them appropriately. We addressed the management of important posterior segment complications of cataract surgery. If you would like to suggest topics for our next seminar, or have any queries please email us on info@cityeye.co.nz We look forward to seeing you at our next City Eye Specialists Event! Back
